Original VW Tint?
« on: 27 January 2008, 17:03 »
Hi peeps,

I have stone chip markings on my windscreen and passenger side window and looking to get these replaced these.
I would normally get these done through the fullycomp insurance but noticed that there is a slight tint on glass all round?
They also have a VW isngna at the bottom so I believe this is the original glass on the car.

My car is an Oak Green Valver and I am not sure if its the play of the paint work but the glass seems to have a green tint within!?

Question one is whether autoglass etc would have this type of glass as a replacement or would I have to go to dealers?
And two being whether the glass all round does have a tint as original?

To perfect eyesight...

Thanks in advance,
G

Yup, they were all made with a green tinted glass. I thought only VW had the replacement green tint glass.

Anyone ever had experience of getting their insurance company to put the VW only part?
I know its just glass but rather have the original thing than an off the shelf solution to save a few quid!

Could that possibly have been an option when buying the car?

i believe so, i think it also depends on the year and what vw felt like at the time.  my driver was completly devoid of any extras so i expect it was because it was a runout 89 model, i doubt someone would have asked for green tint glass! My GTI and the 16v were early 1990 models, so perhaps they had clear glass to make em a bit cheaper to make & sell...  Who knows tbh.  My 8v was also completly devoid of any extras!
