Bushes MK4 GT TDI
« on: 20 January 2008, 17:02 »
I think that my suspension bushes may be shot, I had a drive of my friends 130 with 18’s on and his ride felt firmer and more solid than my 130 with the standard 16’s on. His felt like it could take the bumps a little better than mine, also sometimes when turn up or on to hills I get the odd creak coming from the suspension area.

My mk4 also pulls to the left, i've had full tracking done, new front shocks and it still pulls, could this be anything to do with it?

If they are shot, what will I need to replace them? What’s in the kit, just four bushes or is there a roll bar etc, also how much can I expect to pay for a new set/kit?

Thanks everyone.

If you mates running 18s i take it he has low profile tyres which will make the ride firmer than the standard 16s with standard rubber.

As for the pulling to the left Does sound like classic lower arm symptoms, As you put the power on the arm moves inwards due to the wear in the bush, throwing the tracking off and making the car pull left/right, when you back off it goes back to the rest position and drives straight.

Creak could also be related to the above or the classic rear rear axle bushes, wich are cheap to buy but are a sod to fit.
hope this helps mate.

Hi mate, thanks for your reply.

I ran 18’s and then removed them because the ride quality was so rubbish, this could have been due to the fact that my bushes needed replacing. The pulling does stop when I back off the power and returns when I accelerate. The creak only happens when turning left uphill from a flat surface if that make sense.

I think it is my bushes that need replacing, I’m going to call that supplier tomorrow and get the correct ones ordered and get them changed this week. It’ll be a pair for the front and a pair for the rear?

Thanks for your time mate.
