My mechanic has a '91 8v, his oil light comes on once it gets hot. He informs me that it is likely to be oil seals in the engine that are buggered. He is changing the oil regualary with the 'thick stuff' and is looking to scrap the car when he finds something else! so unless you can afford to rebuild the engine or are looking to do a swap then I'd stay away.

that doesnt sound good apparently it buzzes when warm. if it was the seals id of thought it would burn oil and you would see it under acceleration. would it be oil seals in the head??. if theres no smoke would you think a sensor could be the cause

Cv boots are no problem really

As for the oil light, ideally you need to check the oil pressure, could be a blocked pick up pipe, could be a faulty pump, could even be a knackered engine

Even if the engine is knackered though you can pick up 2.0 bottom ends for not much money and standard bottom ends for peanuts

I think he is being a bit optimistic asking for £500, you seriously need to haggle that down after all it needs work for mot so obviously has ran out or is close to it and you have a potential buggered engine

What are you doing with the valver now then?

Ive agreed on the sale now of ebay keeping my fingers crossed its just a dodgy sensor. He seems a genuine guy and has spent a fair bit of money on the car. Its even got a fischer cd holder!! full scorpion stainless exhaust, cd mp3 player, k&n filter and leather seats. I figure if i cant get it sorted i can sell the parts. I'm keeping the valver just put it in the garage for a few months whilst i do a few jobs on it ( still got those lights to fit). Hows urs going anywayz.
