altenator problem?
« on: 12 January 2008, 16:45 »
i'v got a 1990 1.3 mk2 and sometimes it has a problem idling especially now its cold weather it sometimes cuts out. i've replaced the tube taking hot air off the exhaust manifold into the air intake and thats thts helped but it still cuts out sometimes.

i noticed it generally cuts out when i have the heating blowers on full (as i have to almost permanantly demist the windows) would this mean it is an alternator problem or  is it just a low idle setting that struggles when a biggger load is applied??

i read the post about the 1.6 driver that had a similar problem, i dont think its carb icing as even when the engines warm it sometimes does it. any ides??

is the hot air flap in the airbox intake leg actually working.. have you checked the vacuum lines that go to the air box.. one from car into underside of box, and one from underside of box, up and voer onto the bubble on top the air intake leg thing.. that controls the hot air flap by vac.. mine was doing the same, turns out this had just popped off
