cracked wheel
« on: 13 January 2008, 20:09 »
hi all. i have just found a tiny crack on the back of one of my alloys. its bout 10mm long and less than a mm wide. it is on the part of the wheel at the edge where the tyre fits. i tried to take a picture but it just looks like a dirty mark!  it has not lost any pressure at all though. do i need to worry about this and get it welded or if its not losing pressure can i assume its just a small fracture to the surface?

Are they the steel wheels in your sig?  If so, as they aren't too rare, I wouldn't risk it. Get a new one IMO.

no they are a set of alloys. i have decided not to risk it. they were not made with cracks in them so they shouldnt be driven with cracks in them!  i had a moment of clarity - this is safety i am talkin about!!

speedbumps=cracks=skip
Im seeing plenty of oversized aftermarket wheels going this way!
Aftermarket wheels, with low profile tires need checking on a regular basis...
