Smell of Fuel from inside the cabin HELP!

Hi All,

Over the last few days there has been a slight smell of fuel, today it honked.
Opened up the bonnet and the engine bay smells too but couldn't see any sign of a leak.
It also seems to get worse when the car is facing downhill, any idea where this could be coming from?  :embarassed:

Couple of ideas... Follow the fuel lines back to the tank and check all the connections. Check carefully around the main pump under the car. Check under the inspection hatch under the boot carpet (the hatch is a circle held on by three screws). Check the fuel cap outside the car isn't knackered.

Could be a breather hose as well that's gone pear shaped

Had another thought on  this, the gf's Polo used to stink of fuel in the end it was the petrol cap, got a new one from VW and the smell dissapeared overnight.

Had another hunt around and the smell had gone in the morning, put another £20 of fuel in it and drove to work and no smell at all.

I think you could be right it might just be drizzling out of the fuel cap when at a certain angle...

Thats comming from the end of the pipe in the engine bay. Ive had this on all the mk2's. Even put new jubilee clips ont he end.

think the pipe needs changing really

Where abouts it that located? I took off the airbox to gain more access am i looking in the right place?

if i were you id remove and inspect every flexi rubber fuel hose in the engine bay, engine fires arnt a good way to end the day!
