New engine
« on: 23 March 2004, 12:45 »
My friend has had an engine sitting in his garage which he was going to transplant into a MK1 Rabbit. He doesnt have the time and cannot find a decent enough car to fit it in.

He said though that if I want it I can have it off him for ?2000. This may seem like a ridiculas price when I tell you more but I think it was from a right off.

The engine has done 16k miles and is from an Audi TT. 1.8T.
This has 225 bhp standard. I was wondering if this would be installable in my mk2. If so I'm sure there will be a massive procedure involved.
But we will have to see.

Seems like too good an oppotunity to miss??

The Audi TT 1.8T engine should go straight in..........I think you'll find its a popular engine upgrade. Someone posted a while back a list of engine options for different Mk's, I'll see if I can find it again.

Are you looking to fit it yourself? You'll need the ECU and probably some other bits and pieces as well as the engine itself. If you're getting everything you need to do the conversion for ?2K, then that doesn't sound too bad to me.

I've just spent ages trying to find that link and have given up. Does anyone else have it?

It was a list of all the different engine options for the various mk's with a brief summary of how easy/difficult/problems.........something like that anyway ::) ???

the engine will drop straight in. you'll need to use some of the old engine's mounts thought. it's the wiring up part that's the hardest.
