fitting a 4-1 manifold

Right here goes ive just aquired another MK2 16v with a miltek exhaust and a 4-1 manifold, im not sure on the make of the manifold it has xuwg3-r3-1 wip 117570 Date 3/5/97 stamped onto it.
The head gasket has gone so I have got the head off. The plan is to put this exhaust + manifold onto my oak green golf in my sig which has a genuine exhaust and manifold fitted. It has obviously been very easy to remove the manifold because the head is off but how does one fit it to my oak green one as there doesn't seem alot of clearence. do i need to drop the power steering rack?  :undecided:

I took mine into my garage to let them do it as i believe its a real ball ache. The only advice i can give is to make sure you heat wrap the manifold as if you don't you will risk melting the power steering column as these things get Hot!

I get what you mean.

Worst comes to worst...move the engine out. 3 mounts and walla :cool:

doesnt sound like fun then :sad:. My only other option is just to swap over the exhausts and leave the standard manifold on my green golf and just put on the miltek exhaust. Would fitting the 4-1 make a significant difference?.  Or should just adding the miltek free up a few more horses

The only thing i have noticed is that the engine revs a bit more freely. i cant honestly say i have noticed any significant power gains but i think as the car is my daily i kind of get used to it if you know what i mean.
I would say bang it on as you've got it anyway, it certainly makes a great sound. If i could go back in time i don't think i would bother fitting one and stay standard. It was a lot of expense at the time for what i got back from it.
I think these sort of mods are best done in cojunction with other engine modifications to actually get more poiwer out of the car. As my engine is standard, i dont think it's done much to help really. :smiley:
