Bigger Master Cylinder
« on: 19 December 2007, 15:37 »
Hi All,

I'm pretty sure my master cylinder has packed up, I'm about to go out and buy a new one.
Can I just buy the larger cylinder for the 16v as I plan to put 16v brakes on at some point and use with my standard brakes?

Many thanks

There's at least one person on here doing just that, so the answer is yes, but it might make your pedal a bit 'grabby'
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

When you say grabby do you mean it will apply them quicker than expected?

I've just put on 280mm upgrades to my '90 8v, I also fitted the 22mm master cylinder, if you are pretty sure you are going larger on the brakes, don't waste money on the smaller one because you will need the larger master! might make your smaller setup a little responsive for now, oh well might make a nice change

Cool, thanks for all the info guys.

Fitted the new master last night, just need to bleed now.

Does it matter in which order I do them in?

Yes! Start a the furthest away which I THINK is the drivers rear then work your way to the one nearest the master cylinder.

I too have the bigger cylinder and standard 8v brakes and it works just fine.
