Tyre wear
« on: 04 November 2007, 19:43 »
Just a quick question - anyone know what is the tread depth is on new 18inch Dunlop Sport Max tyres - I never checked when I picked it up in March. Just trying to figure out how long they're going last.

Do all new tyres have the same tread depth ?

Thanks.

don't all new tyres come with 8-9mm of tread??

tyres will last depending on hard you drive it   also maintaining the correct tyre pressures will ensure their longevity

That's not the best tyre out there but they do wear very well.

I have a lunatic friend with a Megane F1  and after 8,000 miles his Dunlop sport maxx's look almost new.

Thanks for the responses.
I know the Dunlops have been slated on this forum, which is why I was wondering how much longer they would last.
We (wifey and me) have done about 8500 miles since March, and not much of that has been "spirited" driving on the twisties.
Fronts are down to 5 / 6 mm and rears are down to 6 / 7 mm.
So, if they started at 8 mm, still got a good few months left with them.

Next decent weekend will probably rotate back to front, give wheels a good clean and paint the rusty hubs at the same time.
Seen a few posts on the hub problem but can't remeber if anyone has used silver Hammerite on them and posted the results ?

Thanks again.

I've just ticked over 7k and my conti sc2's on the front have had it! (damn remap!) almost level with the tread indicators now, and they have absolutely no grip when under hard acceleration, with the roads everywhere around me seemingly constantly moist I have to be very light with my right foot - even on a duel carriageway in fourth I get a bit of spin if I boot it!!
Should I try different tyres on the front?? I don't think I drive it that hard really...the rears are completely fine, loads of tread, is there anything wrong with getting a different product on the front - I hear Eagle F1's are good (from what I've read on here), and I've been quoted £140 for contis, which is alot considering I'm only going to get 7k! Thanks for any advise.
