There was a lad with a mk3 a while back that had no end of problems trying to resolve a leak, turns out it was a very small hole in the inner wing. It took him a while to find that so that's an avenue you might need to look at too.

Had this in the past on an 8v I had. It turns out the sealant had dried up round the blanking plate under the ecu where the heater fan would be mounted on a lhd. On an old A plate mk2 I've got at the minute the sealant had failed so badly the plate had come away completely and was sliding around under the plastic scuttle cover!!!
I would definately check this area as the water used to drip straight onto the fusebox in my old 8v.
