Been meaning to mention this since I painted my calipers a few months back in the summer.... I really miss the summer! anyway, Looking at a buying guide for the Mk4 just reminded me. 

I had real trouble getting one of my wheels off after taking out the nuts.  Apparently (and this may be common to lots of cars I guess) the alloy can corrode to the hub if 'copper slip' is not applied at regular intervals.  I ended up having to really bash the wheel with a hammer to get it off (i did use a bit of wood to protect the wheel while I did this)

Just thought I would mention it as it may be worth checking on you're cars.  Not a big problem when you are at home, but I would have been really stuck if it was on a hard shoulder somewhere.

had the same problem about 12 months ago and in the end got the garage to get them off (needed new tyres luckily); bought myself a tub of copper grease and just apply a tiny amount to the hub.  Works a treat :afro:

i had this when i rotated my tyres, all i did was buy a rubber mallet ~ £2 and some copper grease

jack the car up (obviously) make sure its on some sturdy axle stands, back the rim from under the car (be carefully as you if you bang to hard you could knock the car off the stand) give the rim a few bangs then turn it 90o rinse and repeat.

once you've got the rims off use a wire brush to remove the oxidisation on the rim and hub, grease up before they go back on.

i cleaned and greases my nuts too at the same time

I had same problem when i went to change brake pads. I put copper grease on the nuts too but due to the ease of tightening wondered if there was a chance to overtighten the nuts??

Buy a £15 torque wrench from Machine Mart (or Argos!!!) & set to 120 NM!! - Problem solved!!!  :wink:
