YOUR OPINIONS
« on: 04 November 2007, 23:22 »
Comin home from chesterfield my car decided it didn't want to run anymore, the fan belt was makin noise but i didn't think anything of it
Anyway comin towards M1 jct31 roundabout from aston side the car ate it's cam belt, it lost all oil pressure
and wouldn't turn over,
Me and my dad took all other belts and pulleys off and the bloke i bought it from said the cam belt was changed bout 5000 miles ago but the prick(pardon my language) who fitted it didn't tight the adjuster pulley enough so it's vibrated loose.
I am after a price what I should be realisticly be paying for a 16v engine out of a 1990 cos i've only had car since october and i was only gonna keep it till my insurance came through but to my suprise it's more fun than my leon turbo.
Like i said the car only stands me a 600 but it's booked in at bodyshop next week to get rust holes sorted and a new tailgate fitted but i don't know wether to cut my loses and look for another
If anyone has a 16v engine layin about gather dust i'll have it off you, i'll give you a tenner for it

Look in parts for sale section. There is a chap selling a whole mountain of 16v bits which equates to nearly a complete engine for 25 notes. Includes rebuilt head and serviceable block with pistons.

£160 for tailgate sprayed inside and out and petrol cap area filled and sprayed.
I've used him before, he charged 200 to spray side of my leon in metallic bronze, i was suprised cos it was a really good match and only my uncle noticed it but he's a sprayer for monty's in sheffield so he would do

all belts have been changed so we could see if engine was seized
it tried to turn but wouldn't fire up so hopefully it should just need retimin, and putting back together
