This 20vT owner needs YOUR help!
« on: 01 November 2007, 13:01 »
Right then ladies and gentlemen, here's the challenge if you choose to accept it.

It's about time that my MK4 GTI T DBW has a little money spend on her. She told me she wants some wheels, she wants to be slammed and she wants to go faster. She's a 2000X 3door reflex silver version and wants to look sexy for the winter.

Now, she's thinking of a remap but wants to be aware of the risks/resale factors of them. She's also considering a panel filter and new dump valve.. Good choices?

She's heard that if she gets lowered, she may have to get a new ARB, is this true? How low should she go on a set of 18"RS4s for example.. Bearing in mind she wants to adjust her height from time to time, if she gets different wheels etc.

Also, then selecting wheels and tyres, as long as the PCD is the same, will they fit ok onto her? Does she have to worry about the speedo being out of wack or anything like that? Do tyres affect this?

On her behalf may I thank all that read this, and she looks forward to hearing some feedback from people who are more knowledgeable than her owner!

Remap sould be REVO with out a problem, i dont beleve it will make a difference to resale, if anything should help, i am lead to beleve from revo as long as shes well maintained before hand there will be no early failures of componants as there settings re with in manufacturers spec (Audi TT 1.8t's 225bhp) my gti went to 218 bhp from 150bhp 500 quid well spent haha, as for wheels and dropping im not sure i like mine standard,

my girl is asking for a set of 18 RS4's..... shes very easy to please, if you do get her REVO'd run her on the better unleaded, i use V-power of tescos super......
Cheers, George.... 1.8 GTIt and loving it!!

As gsn said, the remapps are designed to work on 97+ RON so you would need to use V-Power etc

Remap - loads of companies do it; try before you buy  different characteristics in the way power is delivered

Suspension - lower than 40mm and you may get problems with ARB rubbing on driveshaft; would need a new one but don't increase the thickness if you can help it as you'll promote even more understeer. Also get a rear ARB as this will sharpen up the handling and reduce understeer.

Wheels - hundreds to choose from; speedo won't be affected as long as you fit the correct profile which will maintain the same radius as your current wheels
