I used to own a mk2 16v and am planning to come back into the fold in early 2008 with a mk5 GTI.
Are there any VW insiderers who can help me with a few questions?
1) Does anyone know whether the Pirelli edition is planned to be released in the UK (or RHD import?) - looks interesting on www.volkswagen.de, although my German is somewhat limited.
2) Will all 2008 model GTIs be 230ps as rumoured? Will this be a run-out model with mk6 starting in 2008/09?
3) If 2) is correct then what are your thoughts on the residuals on 200ps cars once out of warranty and down on power?
4) If you arrange an import with Motorpoint or their ilk can you normally spec the car if you're prepared to wait?

Would normally buy a secondhand car but the residuals seem unsustainably robust at present. Makes a new import look tempting.

Thanks!

Jon

I was in Kwik-fit today getting some tyres fitted on the "good ladies" car and they had a poster advertising a Pirelli GTI as prize if you bought so many sets of Pirelli tyres.  So it must be coming to the UK.

I used to have a MKII Gti, what a great car it was. SO after test driving the MKV, it felt fun in the same way the MKII was.

That was IT had, I had to have one.

Mind you while I was there I got a price for two 18" Conti Sport contact 3 and they were £20 cheaper fitted than etyres.co.uk.
Bye Bye Edition 30

VW UK have just stated to Autocar that there are currently no plans to bring the Pirelli edition into the UK.

If the standard MKV gets the Edition 30 engine as standard then I would expect a minor but clear disparity in pricing between the two.

I don't know if this is happening though.

Have you considered an Edition 30? There are a few left.

What is your intrest concerning the Pirelli edition? It only differs from the Edition 30 by having lurid yellow paint, tyre tread seat fabric  and new generation P Zero's.
