Is there an easy way to tell if the HT leads need replacing?

Take off one HT lead - spark plug end
plug in a spark plug
crank the engine over and see if the spark plug sparks
job done

If they are cracked or cracking or if they feel hard when you try and bend them. They should feel soft to bend.

Changed mine when I went over a humpback bridge and they fell off the dizzy...seemed like a good time to replace them. Fairly cheap, so change them if in any doubt or keep a spare set in boot.

Don't buy them from VW... Muchos expensive. I got a £30 BBS set from euro car parts which look to be similar to OEM quality.
