startup noise?
« on: 01 November 2007, 22:36 »
and so the analysis of every little noise starts .......

2 things I have to ask.....

1. Anyone else have a car that sounds noisy on startup as the starter disengages?

2. Does the engine always feel 'loose' in terms of what feels like rocking? between gearchanges etc.
Ok I know there is some play to make it smooth , but tbh Id prefer it 'tighter'  :nerd: (no comment!)
Is this what the 'dog bone' replacement mount is supposed to reduce?

So far car is AMAZING I love it.
120 miles so far.
Its drinking fuel!

But my 3/4 sized front plate has arrived , so Sat morning that will get chnaged (+ maybe remove the plinth as well)
New microfibre wash mitt / 2 buckets + various meguiars stuff bought tonight also

cant wait.

I think what your experiencing is normal and will ease off as soon as the car is loosened up so i wouldnt worry but the GTI by nature is loudish and often can sound like a diesel

Well done with the wash mitt and the 2 buckets.

When i first got mine i went mad on cleaning products and ended up ordering the following:

- P21S Gloss Enhancing Paintwork Cleanser
- Zymol Auto Wash
- P21S Super-Absorbing Drying Towel With Case
- P21S Bodywork Conditioning Shampoo
- Zymol Wheel Brush
- Meguiars Hot Rims Wheel Cleaner
- P21S Concours Look Carnauba Wax
- Meguiars NXT Generation Glass Cleaner
- Meguiars NXT Tech Protectant
- Meguiars Grit Guard & Bucket Kit
- 2x Meguiars Supreme Shine Microfibre Polish Cloth
- 2x Meguiars Even Coat Applicator Pads
- Meguiars Hot Shine Tyre Spray

Ended up spending £200 and im still spending as i love keeping my car looking good. Bought them from http://www.vertar.com/ which i would recommend as it offers great prices and service

I would recommend you wax your car to protect your paintwork during the winter months. Also waxing the car makes it easier to clean and when it rains the water just rolls off.

I recently had a pair of special reg plates made aswell and stuck them on weekend just past. They were of the following design and they look the biz (they were on a light honeycomb background also):

thanks folks.

Funnily enough mine sounds a bit like my old Mini with the 1380 engine.
At idle its noisy but as soon as you take it above that it goes silent and purrs

number plate pics of course , although it may not suit the front of the golf as its such a big car (and a small plate!)

SteveS : Have you added the ED30 badge to the front or is it a p/s?

Mamamus : Nice One  , megs is def the best. Fighting buying a pressure washer at the mo lol

Remember to take it a little easy, got to run her in properly.

There are loads of hints and tips on what sort of speeds/revs to do to run her in.

(Sorry to be boring :D)

indeed all good advice.
I will be cautious , but as i have said before , with other cars I have been 'too careful'
so I am keen to exercise it a bit more.
Let oil warm then lowish load + variable revs.
Just dont labour it! which would be easy in the Ed30 at low rpm in 6th
