I've gone through 10 pages of searchs and cannot find an answer to this one...
When I did my conversion this weekend I used carriers&calipers from a Mk3 gti. They have a short section of solid pipe from the caliper to the hose instead of the 'pigs tail' of solid brake pipe as found on mk2 256 brake set ups. Due to the usual fun with brake fittings I ended up swapping the pigs tails and brackets over to the new calipers - nothing wrong so far, everthing fits and works. However on mk3 golfs where the bracket for the pigs tail would have been attached there is a nice little duct thingy fitted. I want to do this too but has anyone done this swap and retained the short straight piece of pipe instead of swapping it over to the bent pipes? I'm worried about the flexible hose lengths.
Now to the tip. Easy source of of front bearing housings and hubs to get you on the road to decent brakes... look for them on mk3 4 stud donor cars instead of a mk2 16v, G60, Rallye or Corrado. There seem to be no end of them in the scrapyards now.
PS if anyone wants to buy a set of carriers, calipers (less than a year old) pads and disks for a 256mm set up let me know. I also have a full 239mm set up bearing housings, hubs, ball joints(small) disks pads and calipers too. And a wife moaning about the state of the garage - she is not for sale ...........yet.
