Power steering problem.
« on: 28 September 2007, 09:38 »
Picked up a my new mk2 but am noticing something wrong with the power steering (didn't notice it on the test drive, kicking myself a little)

The first thing I've noticed is that turning right is more dificult then turning left, almost like the power steering is fighting me.
Secondaly the steering wheel 'wobbles' slightly.

Anyone have any clues if this might be a proper rack or pump failure or maybe something easy to have a go at (air lock or something).

Could be anumber of things check PWR STR belt and pump for wear/fluid and noises. Wobberly steering could just be dodge warped discs or ball joints. The final thing is fluid leaking into the Rack and out some where, but not somethign to be looked at lightly if you want it to drive right.
I suggest get your hands dirty and start inspecting for wear and leaks as test drives mean nothing until you look yourself!

get the wheels balanced and the tracking done as the first jobs.  Tighten the belt and see what the result is.
