Fitting coolant flange and expansion tank
« on: 12 September 2007, 13:05 »
Hi,

I've had a look around the site for guides with a bit of success.... I was hoping for any tips when fitting these items.

It's an 89 8v with incontinence issues, It's leaking from the expansion tank (at the top where the sensor plugs in) and from the flange where it attaches to the engine. So I've got a replacement expansion tank and new flange (037 121 133 C) ready to fit. So if anyone has done theirs and has any advice I'd appreciate it.

did you get a new seal/o-ring for the flange?

I did,

I questioned the bloke at the dealership as the o-ring wasn't included with the flange, so he gave me one free of charge.

Wouldn't have been happy if I started the job to find I didn't have all the parts!

Don't do what I did and overtighten the flange. I'm not sure of the torque but it doesn't have to be very tight at all.

I ended up warping mine and had to get another one!

my top tip for the day is to make sure the engine is cold when you do it.

it will bloody hurt if it isn't
