New headlamp needed

Hi - mine was kindly smashed last night  

Any of you guys know what I can expect cost wise form VW? are they easy to fit? (remember hearing people struggling to get halogens in so is it therefore a pig to replace the whole unit?) Take it it is a whole sealed unit and you can't buy the lense separately? Anyone know of a good breakers?

The cheapest new lights are about ?80+VAT+del from an online VW parts place (Eurocarparts, VAGParts, etc)

You will have to remove the front bumper to get the change the headlight unit (not too difficult with the aid of a haynes manual)

I've got a spare pair of headlamps taken from my 2000 GTI - If you're interested in a second hand unit (in perfect order) then drop me a line (golfstuff@tiscali.co.uk), I'm looking for around ?50 each inc delivery

Needs attention to plastic at the rear of it but suppose you could mix and match with the one you already have

The lugs on the back of the light are moulded into the casing - you cannot remove the lug from one lamp to fix another. However there is a repair kit available from VW for about ?8 to repair each lug, which screws onto a boss already in place under the old lug.

Burnsy - cheers for that but its one with a fog and the off-side one that has been kicked in.
Chris - you could be my saving grace. I'll drop you a line after the weekend if I haven't been able to source and get one on this Saturday as that would be the ideal. I'll get a boss kit in though ready as from what you say I'll need it whichever light I get.

if you gotta get a new set of headlights anyway, sod the standard ones and get some anniversary black ones, These are genuine and on e-bay, see link
