ISV or ISV control module?? HELP!
« on: 22 August 2007, 14:34 »
Hi
My car starts first time but runs rough for the first 3-5 minutes of warm up.
Then runs and idles perfectly. Its a MK2 Golf GTI 16v k-jet - 1988.

First I bought 2 warm up regulators from ebay, neither did the trick.

I then noticed the ISV was not buzzing (sound or from touch) when the ignition is on. I swapped around the temperature sender connection for the ISV with the one for the temp guage on the dash which I know is working. Still no buzzing sound.
Next I cleaned out the ISV with WD40 until it was spotless. Still no buzzing and same problem when cold.

I have come to the conclusion that either the ISV has gone or the ISV control module.

How can I find out which of these has the fault without buying one of each?

Just performed a continuity test on the isv with newly purchased multimeter. Bit confused though as to which is the correct setting to use on the thing. These are the results if anybody can understand them?

When using setting 2000k the reading is 0
When using setting 200k reading 0
When using setting 20k reading 0
When using setting 2000 reading 005

its the 005 that concerns me.
Does this mean the problem with the isv?

Also, can i test the circuit going to the isv from the control module with the meter? What reading should i expect to see if its working?
