« on: 13 August 2007, 19:25 »
  My blood is boiling over, have just got back from my Local VW stealer (breeze Bournemouth). Thought since its my birthday today i would go and see what i would get for my 2005 candy white GTI, lux, winter pack 23000miles, FVWSH, immaculate condition, against a new GTI ED30 with a few toys total cost £26180. Well you won't believe what they offered...£12000!!! I nealy fall off the chair, just shook my head in disbelief and walked out.

That's proper taking the p*ss.I was in the same situation about 6 months ago, again a white GTI.They seem to have a downer on the colour, even though to my eyes its still the best looking.I ended up advertising privately and taking 15k in the end.You should be able to get 15-16 selling it yourself. There's a nice ED30 on Pistonheads at 20,999,looks great,United grey i think the colour is called.

I test drove a Leon Cupra last weekend and the salesman rang round a few VW dealers to underwrite my 2006 (56) candy white, 11,500, recaros and a few other bits as a part exchange. Best offer was £15,900... (against new Leon at just over £20K) By the way, despite the prospect of having the ed30 engine (and the tuning potential) on the 'cheap', I couldn't face life with the very scratchy plastic interior of the Spanish contender!

That part-ex price is very low. Salesman must be a smug individual who has already met his monthly target. Go in during the last 5 days of the month and see what he'll offer (better still speak to another member of the sales team) or contact other dealers to see what they will do. Best option is to always sell privately and consider buying an import if you want to maximise your own money - you can still get £1000's off the UK retail price.

IMHO, white is still a colour with a limited resale market - you either love it or hate it. The exclusivity and residuals of the Ed 30 will also settle down a bit against the standard GTI, but there will always be a premium for the Ed 30. There have been some competitive Ed 30's for sale recently on Pistonheads though. Some links here:

There again, you could just keep your current car and enjoy it all the more

It was more curiosity then anything. You see i want to put some BBS's on my car, colour code the bumpers, and fit a revo. Then i thought wait a minute someone as already done this and called it ED30! I never really intended to trade my lovely golf in unless it was amazing deal, but i wasn't prepared for such a insulting offer. You are right about there targets, i remember him saying a few times how many GTI's/ED 30 they have sold this year.

And what you said about people either loving or hating the colour white is right! I'm thinking of renaming it marmite.

jee wizz, i went and enquired saturday with my 05 DSG 5 door and was offered 18300 for mine with 17500 miles on the clock in laser blue pearl! from Peter Cooper Southampton. Yours must have very few extras for them to come back with that offer book value was 15k as he said but with the ammount of extra toys would give me 18300 for a resale value for them of 19000, and who said adding extras doesnt come into the equation!.Ive had to back off on doing the revo, wifes not too keen on me doing it, and insurance companys are wanting shed loads more premuims . So for the minute, shes staying standard. , maybe later

the ed 30 costs you just under 2k more and you will always roughly depending on mileage, get some of that back, dealer estimated to me approx 1300 more then if you had a standard GTi and again with the ammount of extras the car comes with with help greatly on resale.(they make you think it doesnt but thats total horse sh!t)
