REASON FOR CUTTING OUT??

hi,im new on here.just bought a mk2 8v and have just had it fully serviced.as i drove home and stopped at some lights it just cut out!!most unexpected!!
it started straight away again and was fine til i got home.
any suggestions/ideas??
also when i change down dip the clutch etc the revs tend to drop quite a bit.what would cause this or is it normal for golfs??
any help appreciated :huh:

It sounds as if you could have an ignition timing issue. Easily sorted if you have a timing light. A cheap enough check in a garage if you don´t. Check your timing before venturing into other remedies.

i had this on my old mk2 8v and i never did find the problem, engine died not long after! get it checked out by a pro :)

JUST HAD THE TIMING BELT DONE AS PART OF THE SERVICE SO IT SHOULD BE OK??

WHERE IS THIS IDLE STABILISATION VALVE LOCATED AND IS IT EASY TO CLEAN??

Idle stabilization valve sits on top of the rocker cover and has an electrical plug on one end. To check if it works, switch on the ignition and you should feel it vibrating. Nothing much to clean on it though I don´t think.

check the idle switch clicks 1st, and read my digifant FAQ :) (assuming its a digifant MK2)

i had the same problem with my first mk2 gti, was a bit of a problem when it used to do it when i overtook and the engine died on me if this happens to you as well when its driving it was the ecu that was the problem, hope thats not whats wrong with yours.......good luck
