I guess it must still be at the stealers

Wouldn't put it past some of them!

I'm now finding that a lot of my "warranty" problems are basically down to the sheer incompetence of the original selling stealer.

What is even worse, though, is that VWUK don't give a flying fcuk about the "quality" of workmanship of their franchised dealers.  Having previously dealt with the SMMT (on a previous unrelated issue), I find that for the consumer, they are as good as a chocolate fireguard.  I've come to the conclusion that the SMMT only protect the interests of the manufacturers/importers/dealers - and NOT the end users, ie paying customers.

Rant mode off . . . ohhh, some big burly bloke in a white coat is trying to inject something into my arm . . . .

Yep, come on Mike, give us an update!

Oh dam..... :embarassed:
Im sorry guys..
I replied to Barlimow's PM and kinda forgot to update this page.
1. Welcome back TT and
2. Why are you digging this out from the archives?

Ok. The problem took two hours to fix and was as TT and the Doc said... On more than one occasion :lipsrsealed: a software problem.
The computer and actual parts that run the electric windows called the CCM (Central conveniance module) are American.  :lipsrsealed:
They are known for faults.
Like most American goods/ cars... (No offence meant lol)

Basically they plug the car in, download a software update from Germany, install it and bobs your uncle.
Ok I made a right fool of myself shortly after getting the car fixed By bragging that the car would be cool when we got back to it from doing shopping anf found to my surprise that the software update actually it seems, cancelled out the Remote open and close function. (Does that mean its still broken? Dont know or care)

Had no problems since the upgrade and yes, warranty did cover it and we were given a complementry polo

Happy TT? Happy forum?
Prob solved.

mike

Thanks for the update Mike.

I only dragged it up because it is always nice to get some feedback, for any other users of the forum who might get similar probs.

Regding the actual specifics of the CCM, I personally doubt that VW fit any American made electronics components.  They are usually made by Bosch, Pierburg or Beru.  What was probably stated was that the idea for the CCM was taken from the Yanks, because they are la$y fat ar$eholes, who cant even be bothered to press four individual switches to wind up the windows!

Your specific concern, with the now defunct one touch closure - when the new software was loaded, it reverts everything back to "default" settings, and should have been re-enabled by the stealer.  Do you have highline computer, cause you can sort that from the highline.

Oh, and did the stealer treat your car with care - no dents or scratches, which you (or was it your mom) was concerned about?

Yup. We got the highline. I didnt know you could change that through there. I only used the highline once and that was to reset the cars settings to see if it would help. Will ask my mom. But I dont think its important. I use it cos I love little gadgets :embarassed:  My mom never uses it.

With regards to the stealer thy didnt have much of a choice. If anything they did us a favour. Not only was the car fully valeted and sparkling like new. But they also polished out a large scratch that was on the Honeycomb grill (Just under the VW badge- the shiny black part) where some fool got creative with a trolley in a car park. All in all a good experiance. But we took it to a different dealer who are apparently the best in Cape Town.

We also pointed out that the backseat airvents (in the centre console) had broken due to the kids coming in and out and they kicked the clips off and broke the vents  Vw ordered a complete new rear console part (our one was scratched a bit) and a new vent. We have the parts at home but wont fit them until we sell the car because they will just break again. Short of that they did a awesome job polishing the plastic etc making the car look really good. They also did something about the Ipod which previously sounded really pathetic. The car is now like a taxi on wheels with the sound it makes. (Even when listening to the likes of Enya and Robbie Williams)

I am certain that the dealer said it was an American part and its generic to Audi and BMW. He just said that its well known to cause faults and would be a easy fix. In all we are happy with the service they gave us.

For those who live in SA near Cape Town. I would personally refer you to Vw Tokai and NOT Vw Claremont.

Er. Not quite. Do you honestly think they didnt sign a contract etc? And of course we made them look over the car for scratches and of course they hated it.

There is always a way to get things done properly

Yes, but you have proved they CAN do the job correctly, and without scratching it.  Because you made it clear that you want them to look after the car, rather than treating it how they like, in future, they will respect it more!
