TT, seems like your on a mission to provide all your technical wisdom to all posts you have missed - you must be workin hard, lit candle through the night and all!!!

I still actually have the problem with the car, even though they have replaced the ecu, after all diagnostic tests. Last time i took the car to the dealers, i took the service dept manager with me on a test drive so i could show him exactly what the problem was. The mechanics kept the car for about three days (which quite frankly was a very difficult 3 days driving about in a 1.4 vw fox, covering almost 200miles

). Anyway, the battery connection seemed ok, fuse plugs were ok. Manager rang on the third day to explain that "the tiptronic ecu wasn't functioning properly" and that "we'd have to order a new replacement one in, which will take about 2 weeks to manufacture, as it is chassis number specific." Still waiting for the guy's phone call to let me know the part has arrived.
I will make a note of what you have said TT - will ask the mechanic when i take the car. Thanks again guys - appreciate your advice
