Bent my sump!
« on: 20 July 2007, 13:55 »
Well last night i came across a rock in the middle of the road that didn't fit between my road and the sump! I could tell this by the loud bang!

Anyways had a check and thank the lord it hasn't holed the sump, just bent it badly.

New one and rubber gasket is on order from AVS and will get the bolts from VW - Can anyone confirm the part number for these bolts?  - Did a search but i can't find it.

My main question is - Do you think i could do any damage to my engine driving around for essential journeys until the replacement arrives?

Thanks,

John.

what year is the car?

if i remember correctly the newer models had a deeper sump fitted and when i had mine off last there was a large gap between the sump and working parts, however, it may have bent the oil pick-up... but short use should not have a detrimental effect upon the engine...

think the deeper sumps cam in around 88, so you might well have one if its a late 88... if its running ok then should be find, just dont razz it and keep an ear out for either the buzzer or any noises that aint good comin from the engine.
