Should my pipes be blocked?

`90 gti 8v

 Just been cleaning my idle valve out to try and find why my tickover dips and rises on idle and noticed that the 3 small pipes (about 8mm)coming from the main unit on the injection unit are blocked off with a few inches of pipe.Is this normal or should they lead somewhere?

yeah some vacuum pipes are blocked off, probably for a different set up. Your idle problem could be the blue temp sender (on top of the coolant pipe) buy VW as the others just don't last

 Yeah just been reading throught the many topics on the imfamous "blue temp sender" 
 Got the part number so will try that next. My only bother is ive never used a main dealer for parts in my life  :rolleyes:lets see if they can sort me one..
