Really disappointed with LV. I've been with them for a few years now but while everyone else's insurance seems to be coming down mine has gone up from £288 last year to £344. Phoned them and they were only willing to knock off £20 so I cancelled.

Got a quote for £230 with a lower excess from Saga. Only problem is that the missus is now taunting me relentlessly calling me a geriatric, OAP etc.

IMHO loyalty means nothing to insurance companies, other than they probably see loyal customers as easy targets for premium increases.

I switched from LV to Aviva this year. I’d been with LV for four years and this year they put my renewal premium down by £18. Aviva quoted me £84 less than LV’s price for this year on a like for like basis (e.g. cover, add-ons, excess, annual mileage etc.), so it was an easy decision to switch.

I did get some quotes on a comparison site that were cheaper than Aviva but they were from companies I’d not heard of before. I’ve been with Aviva before and have always been very pleased with both their customer service and claims service, so for me it was a case of better the devil you know .

After many years with LV my experience is the same.  They are getting more expensive and less competitive.  My house insurance has literally doubled in the last two years and I have moved to another insurer.  I have a feeling my car insurance will be with someone else too when I get my renewal quote in a few weeks.

As suspected LV incresed their renewal price by 10% when it came through for me last week.  That is despite having 6 years NCD rather than 5 and despite it being reported that premiums should be slightly lower.

As it is my GTI is being replaced by an M340d in a few weeks, so my insurance cost is going to be higher but that is fine.  I've used comparison sites to find an insurer who will cover me for 60% less than LV have quoted for the M340d.  I haven't heard of the company offering the lower quote ("Prima") but they are on all the comparison sites and seem to have good online reviews.  For a 60% reduction I'd be crazy not to move.

Ouch!

I am up for renewal in August, hoping its lower.

Although, oddly, had my re-newal quote through from Directline for my home insurance and is 39.23% higher than last year! I haven't even claimed.

Needless to say, I won't be renewing.

My Directline home insurance has gone down this year. Car insurance, not due until the end of August...
