Thatcham immobiliser
« on: 08 July 2007, 17:36 »
Hey guys, been a while since I was here, went out then back into the Dub world, and now its back to business!

I bought a MKII Gti 3 door as a project car. Needs a new headgasket, and a few other bits and bobs, as well as a general spruce up.
My problem is with the immobiliser.
It was very dodgy to start with, took lots of fiddling around with the keys to get the damned thing to start, and now the batteries in the key fobs have died, Ive no way of deactivating the immobiliser.
I've heard that its just a case of removing a fuse to bypass the immobiliser.
Is this true?
And where is this fuse?
Being an aftermarket kit, im assuming it may well be somewhere else to where the usual fuses are, but does anyone have any ideas on where I can start?

Thanks.

not sure mate, but i got mine fitted by my father in law, he had to hook it up to three places, the coil, the fuel pump & the ignition i think, i suppose it depends on the type of immobiliser.  Some of them you have to turn the keys seven times (or there abouts) to reset the immobiliser.  Try & get some numbers of the black box (model number etc) & take it from there.  I'm sure the guys on here will help you, they're legends!

Good Luck

take out the fusebox and reconnect the black wire with yellow stripe which has been snipped (you will see 2 ends of it connected to other black wires with no other markings) then you will find a heavy thick black and red strip wire which is the same... once these are reconnected the car should start.. the colours maybe different but you will deffo see the loop circuits for the immobiliser do ask if you get stuck.
