New GTI for 1 September - Aftermarket Tints....?
« on: 24 August 2007, 20:22 »
I went to see my new GTI at the dealers today - a bit grubby, but a beautiful GTI with DSG, 18" Monzas, MFSW, Ipod Prep and Cruise - in Diamond Black

One thing I was left wondering, though - it was surrounded by GT Sports that were also waiting for the 1st September, and I notice that they now have rear tints as standard. It does look a lot better, and to be honest I'm really starting to wish that I'd had mine done.

Dealer says he can arrange an aftermarket 35% tint for £250.

Any thought about whether the aftermarket films are any good, and whether this is good value? Apparently it will be guaranteed for 5 years........

Cheers
Diamond Black Golf GTI, DSG, Monza IIs, Cruise, MFSW, Rear Tints and Ipod. VRmmmmmmmm!

I had my front and backs of my previous car done last year for £250 (yes, I know the front tints are not legal), so £250 from a stealer is not bad actually.

The DIY kits are a certifiable nightmare - i kid you not.  Do not even think about attempting it, unless your prepared to take all the windows out !
Ordered 9 Sep 13 - GTD 5 dr Manual, Tornado Red. Luckily Offered and accepted a cancellation, delivery est 2.12.13.

I think £250 for the b-pillar back and rear windscreen is a bit expensive tbh. I had some aftermarket tints done a few weeks back and cost me £150 including the front side windows (not legal i know). Granted i knew the guys, but they would have done it for about £200 for all five screens for new customers.
I'm in the north east, so maybe labour etc.. cheaper than doon south?

Yes down south is probably more expensive, but then it depends whos doing the work.  I paid £400 for whole car from Pentagon, Acton, west London (these guys do Tony Blair, Madonna's cars etc).  When you spend £23,000 on a GTI, its a small price to pay in my opinion, so its worth having it done properly and if yours is going to be guaranteed by the stealer, do it.
I've seen some crap jobs on expensive cars which peel off after a few months, or the corners are done badly, especially the rear screen on a Mk5 which Im told in tricky because of the curve.
