seat madness
« on: 14 June 2007, 03:24 »
Hi all
I have a vexing problem with the seat that is driving me crazy!! Its the passenger side on a MK3 Golf Cabrio 1996 N
Basically the seat back falls backward with the slightest bit of pressure and I can't figure out which part has gone.
I have had the hinge mech apart and replaced the rotating knob (the it used to adjust the backrest), but the seat back doesn't lock into position.
Its a scary state of affairs for passengers when they shoot backward on acceleration. Probably highly dangerous too!

Anyone had any experience of this or got any ideas?
 cheers

No I never solved the problem - I got a replacement seat from a scrappy!
Sorry not much help, but I bet thats what you end up doing!

Follow the cable down from the tilt lever (side of the seat in order to tilt seat forwards) to where it goes to the cog at the bottom and make sure it is going back into the locked position when you release the lever.
