serious amounts of work but for me its a steam cleaner all the way, did my f plate passat at john mitchells as well. it was stinkin' under there, having had a leaky rocker cover and knackered hydrolic gearbox mount. didn't even leave the engine running and it came up great, i'll take a picture if i can be arsed!

^^ He won't be.

Use some de-greaser and borrow / ask some one to steam it. Comes up a treat.

... it's turned into a fashion show for poofters.

^ man that car sucks. steam cleaning is fine, i had mine done by john mitchell racing and it looks amazing afterwards. just make sure you keep the engine running all the time its being cleaned and be sure you dress the engine with a suitable product afterwards to prevent corrosion.

hahahah i guessed some vw folk would think that, but just coz u are bang into your golf it dont mean other stuff sucks!!!!, i dont particularly like the look of your car tbh but its each to their own and i respect that, you should do the same, reliability and the performance is just second to non and its an absolute minter of a car. i have it in storage as it was the car i passed my test in when i was 17 (now 30) and it was a standard white GTI, and i did all the cleaning myself unlike you

but yeah, if you put enough time into it you can get your engine lookin pretty smart, im doing my mk 3 golf gti engine at the moment, was really dirty but its getting their, also be carefull on the VW's not to remove all the wax they put on at the factory, i leave all this on the bits u cant see if u understand what i mean :)
