Mk1 Gti value anyone?
« on: 07 May 2007, 22:17 »
Hi people, i was wondering what you think this is worth:

1982 Mk1 GTI in Mars Red
2.0 2e block/PB Head with new stem seals/reseated valves
Janspeed tubular manifold
TSR 285mm Disc conversion
Lowered slightly, purple springs(?) and rear Konis. Recent front inserts and Mk4 bumpstops.
Part-polybushed, have put the front and side engine mounts on, have rear beam bushes, front wishbone, rear top inserts and gearbox ones still in packets.
15" BBS RA x4, 1 x 15" new G60 steel with new P6000 (front discs too big for 13/14") 1 BBS has a bent inner rim and they all could do with a refurb. Also 13" GTI alloy spare.
Panel respray in the last several years. Not brilliant job- surface rust under bonnet and in engine bay and some panel breakout.
Red stripe interior, bit scruffy but complete, e.g drivers bolster worn through/ sh!te mdf rear shelf.
Auxillary gauges in centre console, oil gauge not currently connected as i used the Mk2 water-oil cooler rather than the Mk1 air-water one.
Clutch a bit high (will replace friction plate for extra £100 after sale) Gearbox whines a little but changes well, replaced linkage rubbers. Doesnt crunch. Real Golf Ball gearknob!
New rear wheel bearings/accelerator cable/exhaust rubbers for mot
Taxed Feb 2008
MOT May 2008

This has been my baby for the last several months- i bought it with a blown engine and dropped in a 2.0 conversion. Since moving to Southampton i need a safe, economical car for work, the gf is in Oxford and the Mk1 is not rally the car for a daily grind through traffic so ive decided to flog it and get a 'sensible' Polo TDI instead.

I planned to feeBay the car in the next few weeks but given the monkey bidders around nowadays id rather offer it up on the forums instead.

Its a sweet Mk1 but needs some comsmetic tlc, structurally very good- it only failed its mot last week on rear wheel bearings, horn and missing exhaust rubbers. Goes (very) well and also stops well too, i have been surprising quite a few tailgaters recently

Im unsure what its worth given the mods. I have no history of the car, its had 15 owners since 1982 on the V5 and the only receipt that came with the car was a £542 bill for the TSR big brake conversion.

Thanks for your help

If only my Volkswagen was as reliable as everyone else's...
