It really depends on how competent you are, but it is basically straightforward.  You just need to be careful that you don't brake any of the delicate plastic retaining tags.

This is from memory, so double check any ommissions in my work procedure:

1/ "ease" up the base of the gear lever gaiter, disconnecting the electrical connection for the DSG illumination, and fold back over the gear stick.

2/ remove the two T20 Torx screws which were hidden under the front edge of the gear gaiter base.

3/ lever, carefully, the rear edge of the ashtray/storage compartment.  Disconnect the wirining connectors for both ESP and TPMS switches, and also the fag lighter.  Release the white push-in cable loom retainer from the underneath of the storage compartment.

4/ wiggle out ashtray/storage compartment, complete with ESP/TPMS switches.  From the underside, "push" up and release the ESP/TPMS switches, making sure the metal retaining tangs don't spring off into oblivion!  In a similar manner, push out the two remaining switch "blanks".

5/ release the plastic tangs from the front top edge of the cover for the ashtray/storage compartment, then push rearwards, until the locating dowels can be released through the keyhole slots.

6/ if you have the pivoting ashtray/storage cover, open this.  Looking where the front edge of the lid disappears into the sunken hinge area, are two access holes.  Using either your pinkies, or a couple of instrument screwdrivers, carefully release the "hidden" edge of the ashtray lid, then carefully remove the decorative lid cover completely.

Maintaining the tradition of all good "how-to" guides, and particularly mimicing the "Haynes book of lies"  , reassembly is the reversal of removal !!!

Make sure you reconnect all electrical connectors.

I would also recommend you manually check your tyre pressures with a reliable pressure gauge, and then re-set the TPMS.

Oh, BTW, what are the part numbers, and is yours manual or DSG?

Part numbers 1ko-857-351-b-7av & 1ko-863-487-b-7av. Received the parts on friday however disappointed with the colour match, much darker than the picture on ebay!!!! Might relist it, will look ok on a standard GTI but I think the colour difference with the trim of the ED30 is too much
