doing short journeys never does a car's MPG any good.  depending on the traffic the figures you've quoted sound about right.  From where i live into town is about 2 miles and the trip computer will show around the 40mpg by driving like a granny.  Winter temperatures definietly seems to have an adverse effect.

I believe the MKIV didn't come with de-activation switches for the airbags so it's either get hold of VAG COM through someone who has it and you can buy a couple of beers or take it to the stealers.............the obvious problem with deactivation is when an adult is sat in the front and the worst happens then the air bag won't deploy..........

Cheers mate.
The baby will always probably be in the front so hopefully that should not be a problem.
Can i buy vag com myself and do it. If so where is the best place to buy it from. Will the ebay job do the trick or do i need a proper one.

Cheers
Tim.

regarding the cable, some of the ebay ones work, some only work with certain versions.

one of the lads that has a working lead, can probably point in the right direction regarding that.

obviously you'll also need either a lap top or a pc with a really long lead to use the cable with.

i think the air bag switch was an option, that if you had it sat in the small hole, next to the service manual in the glove box.
