Boot will not close properly.
« on: 29 March 2007, 08:18 »
Hi guys.  Today I opened my boot and tried to close it again.  It will not lock into place like it should.  Instead it just bounces off.  I examined the lock on the boot lid and it seems to function properly, if I push the latch in with my finger it locks in place and if I press the button on the boot lid, it releases.  But none of this happens when I try to actually close the boot.  Can anybody help me with this?

Another thing, my car key will not go all the way into the key hole in the boot lock and it doesn't turn.

has the boot lock ever worked with that key? not being funny but you're not trying to close the boot with the catch closed are you? :P failing that there are rubber bung thingy's that can be wound in and out, maybe these are too far out and not letting the boot close enough to engage?

you can also loosen the 2 allen bolts holding the catch to the car, and move it up slightly.  Noth the ones on the boot lid though, the ones on the car :)

Not sure if the key has ever worked with the boot lock tbh.  The latch is definately open when I try and close the boot.  Not sure about that rubber bung thing, i'll have a look later.  It's worked fine before, I don't understand what could have changed since then.

I had this problem with my boot, bought a new latch and everything.

Turned out that it just needed a good dose of WD inside the lock mechanism on the tailgate to free it all up, didn't need the new latch!

Works fine now

The lock doesn't feel stiff or anything.

Yea the problem with mine was inside the tailgate I think, it was the bf who fixed it so can't describe better than that I'm afraid.

It definately needed dismantling anyway and you couldn't tell what was wrong from playing with the latch.

I'm going to the VW garage in Saturday to get the clutch cable replaced, I guess i'll get the guy to have a look at the boot lock while he's at it.

Then i'll need to replace all the speakers because only the two cruddy rear ones work.

Do the expenses ever end with these things?
