What kind of milage does the average 1.8gti do?
« on: 25 October 2006, 08:34 »
I was reading recently that the 1.8 gti engine is only good for 100,000 before a rebuild is required....is this correct? Also when does cambelt and other important requirements need attention?

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah   Sorry I couldn't resist that.

Where did you read that ? If the car has been looked after then they can do 150 - 200k easy and more most of them have. Cambelt and tensioner should be changed every 40 - 50k at the latest I think.
......now officially dubless.

an engines lifespan depends on how well its maintained and how the car is driven..
vw's are barely touched wen it comes to 100k..
regular services and not thrashing it...can take the engine to over 200k like gib said..
