Hi
I have an '81 Gti. Unfortuantly it developed a noise, so I brought a cheep engine as a quick fix, whiles I get mine sorted. I had it standing for a about 6 weeks before I swapped the engine. Just as I fired it up to bring it into the workshops, it wouldn't, then it would. I have spent ages since installing the new engine wondering what I have done wrong, I have now traced it down to the fueling of the car.
I have fuel pressure at the fuel filter, at the 5th injector and the return from the warm up regulator, but from the injectors, a girly dribble. I disconected the injector lines from the fuel distruibtor and (with fire extinguisher in hand) cranked it, nothing, well maybe a small dribble.
I removed the air box, then the metering head, cleaned the air flow flap linkage, cleaned out the metering head with compressed air (I didn't take it apart)
If I pushed the plunger up the air from the fuel intake side came out faster through the injector out lets, but slowley.
So have I got a knackerd metering head, or maybe a warm up regulator (doubtfull as I have swapped it with a known good).
Please help, as on wednesday night I need it to go to the 'no rice meet' (the first public showing of it and the ba*tard develops a fault)
Any ideas would be greatly recieved, also, where to go in the Reading/Maidenhead area to get bits/get it repaired.
Thank you
a frustrated
