I think holding on to it will be the best bet, its seems to me that when you spend money on a car and it still goes wrong you start to feel like its never gonna end (I know when something goes wrong and I get in a p!ss about it I start to feel like the cars doing it just to p!ss me off  ) but whats the point of putting loads of time, effort and not to mention money into a car to then go and sell it after you've cured most of the problems.

If I were to tot up all that I've spent on it, it would convince me to keep it, its part and parcel of owning a 17 yr old car I supposed!
