Wheel width Possible?
« on: 23 April 2007, 08:56 »
Hi there

Im sure you've seen this topic come up many times, but as im new to the VDub scene myself im not sure on the things that are possible.

So.........When it comes to fitting wheels to a standard mk2 golf gti 8v, what width is it possible to fit without modifications being made? (Will be done eventually in good time  )

I should be fitting coilovers aswell and will stick with a 60mm drop to begin with.

Also when it comes to fitting wider wheels, what width tyres do you fit? Just avg 195 or what ? :S

Thanks, Luke

As above. 7" max prob. with an offset of ET30-40. any wider and you will prob need arch mods.

... it's turned into a fashion show for poofters.

Are there many 7x15" wheels about?

So with an 8j wheel im going to need slight arch work, yeh ? or would it be intensive arch work ?

Ill end up taking it to a body shop, im not going to bodge it myself you see, but would like to go for the wider option without going too wide.

So if possible an 8x15 would be great if i could find some within a budget haha.

remember youll have to factor in the cost of some good tyres. i paid i think around 220 fitted for some 195/45/15 toyo t1's.the newer ones. iv had toyo's on different cars and would swear by them.i had the toyo's with same wheels on both a mk1 and 2, and trust me, for grip, 7j is enough. but the side wall profile of going down from a 50 to a 45 profile makes a huge difference.for the better.unless you go for a bbs rm with custom dishes, i think youll struggle to find a 15/8j. if i were you, id be looking for something like a ronall LS. 15/7.5j with 195/45/15 tyre. Toyo of course!
