Mk3 Golf Clutch Problems?
« on: 20 February 2007, 14:52 »
I've just picked up a golf mk3. Its P reg with 64k miles. However, when i use the clutch it seems stiff and sometimes almost sticks on the way back up . Does anyone know if this is common and how much would it cost to have fixed (bearing in mind im a skint 17 year old). Any help with this matter would be much appreciated.

A P reg with only 64k miles! Lucky you!

Has it been stood a while?

first thing would be replace the clutch cable as the self adjuster's seize......and next would be the clutch ratchet (this is located inside the green (on 020 boxes) gearbox cap).it is on the clutch arm and costs about a tenner and is a common problem with vw boxes

The guy i got it off (dads boss) used it every day to go to train station and back (couple of miles or so) and it was garaged the whole time he owned it (it was only a couple of years when he got it). Its been regularly serviced although this problem was not mentioned by anyone.
In regard to the suggestions, are they very labour intensive? I dont have a garage to work in although there are some good workshops nearby. Also, i'd rather pay to have it done by a mechanic than do a boj job of it myself.
Thanks for the help.
