Whew, well 4 hours later and I'm pretty much where I started. I managed to get the dash off, but the new bulb wouldn't work in the right hand socket, and the old bulb worked in the other socket, so it looks like it's not the bulb.
My battery does look pretty weedy, so it might be that. What spec battery is best for the 16v?
