16v kr oil pump shaft bearing? any ideas?

hi there people, hope this isnt already covered, i did have a quick search but couldn't spot anything?!

i have a kr 16v destined for my mk1 so i thought i'd strip it and make sure everything was gonna be right before dropping it in!

when i removed the oil pump drive shaft i noticed that the bearing that it runs on is knackered! (broken up and only about half left of it)  it appears to be made from lead and am assuming it just knocks out but i've been looking on vagcat.com and cant see the part even listed?

just wondering if anybody has had similar experience and can shed any light on the matter?

Yes, seen this before, it's sometimes called the auxiliary shaft bearing. The bearing is a press fit and easy to change, remove the oil seal and knock the old one out, line up the oil feed hole with the gallery in the block and carefully using a socket and a hammer, tap the new one in until it is in the correct position. I usually buy the bearings from a engine reconditioner, they are also available from VW.

thanks steve mate,  i kinda figured that was the crack with them but when i went into vw today the guy just looked at me like i had 2 heads?!!!

ekta (?) and vagcat show no part numbers for them, or even that they exist!!

gonna knock it out and take it in, i'm sure somebody will recognise it?!

just an update!!  if anybody is after these bearings and vw cant find them.

the numbers (from my engine anyway) are   056 103 501    and     056 103 521

i knocked the bearings out and found that the 103 was missing from the stamped on part number.
a switched on geeza from vw sussed the problem.

cheap as anything from vw!!!

are you sure those are the correct part numbers, I've only found them listed for the Brazillian Gol, Parati & Saveiro 2004-2007

yeah mate definitely,   the numbers  056 501  and  056 521  are stamped on them but all vw part numbers have 9 digits.  the vw guy said that 1 indicates the engine  and 03 indicates the crank.

either way its irrelevant as when i went to order them on monday, he broke the news to me that they were obsolete!!!

Smiles engineering in newcastle sorted me out with these on the plus side!





apparently kolbenschmidt are the vw supplier so they should be of OE quality, which is nice!!
