Acceleration Problems
« on: 03 February 2007, 22:19 »
When i first brought my MK1 last August 2006 - it was seemed so quick (fair do's i'd gone from a 1liter to a 1.8!)

Either way, my acceleration just isn't the same, when I have my foot on the accelerator it feels like it's trying to hold me back..

Now i've had the engine checked over and all is said to be fine, however the only real problem is that my manifold has several gigantic holes in which have literally happened over xmas :( - It's blowing like mad.. - originally it had a few small holes and wasnt bad, but its got substantially worse..

Fortunately it's a weekend drive so i've been waiting for something to crop on ebay that a student cash flow could allow for (about £150-£200) - I wanna replace the whole system.

My exhaust is blowing like mad and i have several large holes in the exhaust, it feels like it's got gradually worse.. would this exhaust problem hold me back acceleration wise.. (the manifold is basically falling apart) :(

I took her out for a spin, and after 20 minutes of warming her up some chav in a "Peogeot 205 GTD" - started revving next to me at the lights.. I thought f**k it why not, barely pushed the MK1 when the lights dropped but I had to have my foot flat down to manage to overtake him when he was going flat out.

The car really seemed to be holding back - i know there is more power and ooomph there but it just feels like its dropping off slightly.

The mixture is fine & its recently been tuned, only problem is this exhaust :(

The Manifold will more than likely be the roblem , lack of back pressure could be causing the car to run out of tune

yeah i reckon it will be the zorst, mine was sluggish but it turned out to be an ignition problem, i had new leads, plugs, coil and dizzi cap/arm fitted! also had a general tune up, goes fine now!
