Power steering intermittent from cold start.
« on: 05 February 2007, 21:03 »
As per title - from first start in the morning, my power steering is a little temperamental.  For the first couple of turns of the steering, it is heavy, then I get full assistance for a short time, then goes heavy again.  After 30 seconds or so, it is fine.

I am suspecting, from the feeling I get through the wheel, that it's a pressure valve sticking somewhere, but where?

The belt is new and correctly tensioned.

Appreciate what you say about the belt, but it sounds like its slipping, then gripping, once a little warmth has got into it, maybe worth tightening up a little further, to see if it makes a difference, or maybe its getting contaminated with oil...

Thanks for the reply, but I'm pretty certain that it's not belt slip.  The fault only happens first use of the steering, and then about the centre position.  I'll have to dig out the old haynes manual, and see if it shows a schematic of the fluid circuit.
