Power loss and cutting out problems
« on: 21 January 2004, 22:50 »
Make/model 1987/88 golf 1.6 litre CL. not a GTI.
Its around 10 miles to work on urban roads.

On a few occasions in the last 2 weeks i have been driving along in 3rd or 4th at around 40-50 mph and then all of a sudden i loose power and the car starts to slow down quite quickly obviously then i put my foot down further but the car continues to slow down, its not until i have my foot down 80 - 90% of the way down that i start to accelerate again violently. It is starting to happen quite regularly as of late.

Also, when i have been doing around 40 mph for a while, on a dual carriage for example and then have to stop at a set of lights, the car often cuts out, it usually starts ok afterwards, one i have had a problem, it was as if it was flooded.

I've also noticed that i'm using a lot of fuel, around 200 miles per tank (?35).

Any ideas anyone????

For a start, try n not do 40 on a dual carrige way! lol

If you do just cruise around im low revs all the time it sounds like a possible fuel problem, give it some fuel additive and take it for a real blast! ;)

BEAT ANY GTI (TOWING A CARVAN, UPHILL)
