Alternator woes.
« on: 26 January 2007, 16:39 »
Ive got a mk2 with a 9A bottom end on a kr head. Currently the alternator is attached in 2 places. At the bottom where it pivots and by a bar at the top that goes from the head to the alternator and allows adjustment.

My problem is that the bolt that holds it to the head keeps working loose and dropping out. As a result ive lost the hoist eyelet and have to space the gap between the arm and the head out with washes or nuts. Ive tried thread lock but its still working loose and loosing bolts.

So my question is this. Is there an alternative setup i could use? For example is a mk3 alternator different and will it fit?

My current alternator is new and also a 90A model so would like to keep it or change for another 90A.

What are my options?

Thanks

Not sure about the arm but some pop up on ebay if yours is loose or the thread is buggered

My problem is ive replaced the bolt 3 or 4 times already. Im now looking for an alternative setup to do away with the arm.

perhaps drill the hole outand fit a nut/bolt thru it.  Alternative is a MK3 GTI 2.0 8v setup, this all bolts to a bracket on the waterpump rather than using the brace:
