Skids !

does anyone know about this rear brake pressure regulator thing?

i've heard that if it is unaltered on a lowered car, the lowering simulates boot weight thus applying more rear brake pressure..

i believe this may be  the case on my car as i am regularly locking the rear wheels !

yes i do have sh!t tyres, but this locking up is excessive.

now then, Haynes is stating that adjustment should only be carried out by a VW specialist.
fair enough.   what i really want to know is can this item simply be removed from the car without affecting the brakes, etc.

anyone in the know??

i put a bilstein kit on my 8v which lowered it by 40mm.
no change in braking, so not sure if its that

If the rear brakes and tyres are mechanicaly OK, let the tension off the compensator spring a little at a time untill the locking up stops. Check them on a clear road on a wet day, most of the braking should be done on the front, so they should lock first. If the rears lock first , the car will be unsafe in a pannic braking situation, and may spin :o. There will be someone along soon with the correct setup.

The only way to do it properly is with pressure gauges. However i would go with what Steve says and do a small adjustment yourself.
That is if you are sure that the problem isn't the tyres.

I wouldn't advise doing anything yourself as you could end up with no front brakes at all and that wouldn't be very good.

I'm still looking into this as mine use to do the same, although since going to 17's and having a sh!t load of ICE it's not doing it as much.

what about this valve thingy that adjusts the amount of braking level.

I remember a topic on that.. ::)

It was an add-on valve or summin?
