Thanks Jon
Yes i stand corrected, very early mk3 calipers are the same as mk2's, these will seize.
I meant the proper mk3 calipers with the internal handbrake mechanism(no external spring).
Handbrake cables very commonly seize this time of year if moisture can get in...

OK chaps so are you saying that the really early vr6s used mk2 gti spec breaks or was there some other difference ie pads etc as i would of thought the vrs breaks had to be better due to the extra performance please enlighten me with your wisdom as i didn't know they used any mk2 bits on them... did they raid the mk2 parts bin on any other parts of the mk3....?

all early MK3s with disc brakes will have got the MK2 style, the VR didn't get any special calipers at the rear or owt like that, they're all the same :)

At the front the later ones (95?) got 288mm brakes as an upgrade from the 280s fitted from the start of production.  But now we're drifting off topic

Bulk66 try ebay for the parcel shelf, I was looking for various Mk3 golf stuff last week and saw at least 2 on there.
Virtually everything I know about the workings of the internal combustion engine can be written on the back of a small stamp with a large marker
